Attendance

Any student who is absent or late to school must provide an excuse in one of the following ways:

  1. Email mneatt@scasd.org
  2. Submit the excuse in the Powerschool Parent Portal the day of the absence
  3. Have your child hand-deliver a paper excuse to the front office.

Absences will be treated as unexcused/unlawful until the District receives a written excuse explaining the absence, which is to be submitted within three (3) days of absence. Absences that do not meet the criteria indicated above will be considered unexcused.

A maximum of seventeen (17) days of cumulative excused/lawful absences, verified by parental notification, shall be permitted during a school year. Any absences beyond seventeen (17) days will require a medical excuse.

Unexcused Tardies

We have noticed an uptick in the number of students who have been tardy lately. Please note that students arriving after 8:09 AM need to come to the office with their parent/guardian to get a late pass.

While we understand that oversleeping, missing the bus, or getting stuck in traffic may happen from time to time, please note that these are not considered "excused" tardies. Unexcused late minutes will be added and counted towards a full day's absence.

Excused/Lawful Absence Reasons

As found in the Attendance Policy 204

Some examples of "Excused" absences include:

  • Illness
  • Obtaining professional health care or therapy services
  • Family emergency
  • Required court attendance
  • Death in the family
  • Observance of religious holiday observed by a bona fide religious group
  • Non School-sponsored educational trips: Trip form to be provided
  • Other Urgent reasons that may reasonably cause a student's absence, as well as circumstances related to homelessness, foster care and other forms of educational instability

Educational Trips

Please fill out and send an SCASD Educational Trip Form to the Attendance Secretary listing the dates you are requesting as educational trip days. These signed forms must be turned in to the Main Office to be reviewed by the Principal for approval.
